What SelfHostThis is

A free, independent directory of open-source and self-hostable alternatives to paid SaaS tools. Today it covers 50 popular SaaS products and 121 alternatives, with GitHub stars, licenses, self-hosting difficulty and a ready-to-use “build it yourself with AI” prompt for each. It is also available inside AI assistants through a public MCP server.

The thesis: more people now replace subscriptions with open source or build their own tools with AI. We help them find the way.

Who reads it

Developers, indie hackers, vibe coders, AI and agent builders, and technical founders comparing hosting, tooling and infrastructure. They choose tools and spend on hosting, developer products and AI services.

Sponsor slots

Bottom bar

A slim, dismissible strip at the bottom of every page, labeled “Sponsors”. Name, one-line tagline, link, optional logo.

Featured alternative

Your open-source or self-hostable product highlighted on a relevant tool page (for example, your scheduler on the Calendly page). Clearly marked “Sponsored”.

Newsletter mention

A short, labeled sponsor note in the weekly SelfHostThis newsletter.

Honest reach

SelfHostThis is a brand-new directory, launched in October 2026. Search engines have only just started indexing it, so we don’t have meaningful traffic numbers to show yet, and we won’t make any up. We will publish verified numbers here (Google Search Console and newsletter signups) as soon as they exist.

Early and founding sponsors get a founding rate and the best placement while the directory is small. Get in touch and we’ll agree terms that match the actual reach, and we’ll share verified numbers on request.

Pricing

Pricing depends on slot and duration. Please contact us for current rates.

Editorial independence

Sponsors never influence which alternatives are listed, how they are rated, or the order of results. Sponsored placements are always labeled (“Sponsors”, “Sponsored”) and links use rel="sponsored nofollow noopener". We only list real, verifiable data and may decline sponsors that don’t fit our audience. See also our privacy policy.
